Fishing or flying?

Grey heron
Grey Heron

This morning I saw the resident heron twice.  Once whilst I ate breakfast arriving down by the Bronie Burn, and then again as I walked Scamp and saw it fly from a few feet away to face the harassment of the crows as it climbed up to cross the road before dropping again further upstream.

What a contrast between the still streamline outline it creates as it patiently waits for breakfast to come by, and it’s ungainly shape and laborious flight as it rises to journey up the burn.  I guess it’s like us in some ways, better at some things than others, although I’m mindful it’s a far better catcher of fish than me, and I haven’t yet learned to fly!
