Swallows remain

Ready for the long flight

The swallows are still here, and we’ve watched their acrobatics over the weekend as they take their food on the wing.

Did you know that migrating swallows cover 200 miles a day, mainly during daylight, at speeds of 17-22 miles per hour? The maximum flight speed is 35 mph. Soon they will leave us and travel the long journey south to spend the winter months in warmer climes.  But for now they’re enjoying a mild October and we’ll continue to watch them until one day they’ll suddenly be gone until next spring.
