River Garry, Pitlochry

A walk by the river

At short notice we booked a long weekend in Pitlochry in a lovely hotel with log fires and great food.  As if that wasn’t enough we decided to take a 12 mile walk in some of the most beautiful countryside. There’s a haunting atmosphere in this picture that drew my attention, with the strong light in the trees reflecting in the dark peaty water. It was a day of contrasts, the stillness of the deep pools with the rushing of the fast water, the clear blue sky which changed over the morning until we had the most beautiful snowfall – great large flakes drifting in sackfuls from a grey molten sky.  In fact we ate our lunch sheltering under a huge old pine tree with just enough room to sit with our backs to the trunk and watch the snow falling just beyond our feet. Just the setting to recover from the busy lives we sometimes lead, and reconnect with the rythm and beauty of nature.
