I wonder what signs you look for that spring is round the corner. Perhaps it’s the early flowers – snowdrops and crocuses. I saw an early sign at the start of the week when I went round the corner of the house and noticed that the sun was sufficiently strong to have opened the greenhouse window. That was Monday – by Wednesday we were back to a raw cold that left us in now doubt that there was a bit of winter still to come!
However, this morning we decided to go for a walk and left to head for Buckie so we could walk the first part of the Speyside Way. We parked in Fochabers, took the bus to Buckie and walked the 10 miles that took us along the coast to Spey Bay and the Scottish Dolphin Centre, and then down the river to Fochabers. Further signs of spring were apparent in the bird life. We were captured by the sudden and unmistakeable sound of a woodpecker and as we stood still and listened, we were able to watch a pair of woodpeckers for a few minutes. On returning home we also noticed the Collared Doves are back.
So the signs of spring are definitely arriving – get out there and find some of your own!
