Sitting quietly in the Summer House at the top of the garden this little chick poked its head out of the ivy today. Teetering best describes its ability to cling on to the ivy as it tried to improve its walk, and flying is definitely not quite within its gambit! Every movement brought it nearer to the ground and finally mother swept down to offer some advice.
As we watched out for the fat black cat that sometimes crosses our garden, mother and chick disappeared into the undergrowth and hopefully back to a place of safety. We’ve been delighted this year to watch a wide range of birds from our windows including: swallows, swifts, sparrows, blue tits, great tits, goldcrests, greenfinches, collared doves, the heron… and of course blackbirds!
