This is the beach at St Cyrus and is another of my favourites! St Cyrus is about 34 miles away from Aberdeen and it just sits within Aberdeenshire. We have family who stay in Angus so St Cyrus is only about a 10 minute drive from them. When we visit them we like to go for a walk along this beautiful sandy beach.
This picture was captured by my son David when he was at the north end of the beach near the cliffs. St Cyrus is home to a National Nature Reserve and this can be found between the village and the North Sea. The Nature Reserve is full of wonderful wildlife with over 70 species of birds having been recorded here including kestrel, curlew, oystercatcher, yellowhammer and redshank to name just a few.
Last year, there was a visiting Hump Back Whale which stayed in the bay for a few weeks feeding. Unfortunately we were not lucky enough to see it! Hopefully it will return this summer and we can maybe catch a glimpse this time! You can also see dolphins from the beach too.
If you are in the area then I would recommend a visit to the beach. You can also pop into the Visitor Centre at the Nature Reserve or simply, just get out and enjoy the wildlife and view!
