Brilliant! Excellent accommodation. Gerry, August 2019
Great little cottage ideal for a couple. Hosts were both welcoming and accommodating, with some thoughtful touches such as milk in the fridge and cake and biscuits. Highly recommended, bit gutted I didn’t have time to try the log burner, maybe next time. Iain, September 2019.
A week isn’t enough! We’ve spent a busy week visiting friends and relations. The weather has been kind to us – some time to sit out at the front and read but not enough! The Bothy as comfortable and convenient as ever. Hope to be back next year! Stephen and Marcia, Bury St Edmonds, August 2019.
Thank you for providing such wonderful accommodation. We had all we needed and we’ve enjoyed a lovely week, with brilliant weather. This is a very good centre for exploring the area. We have been to the Garden (twice), Haddo House, Tolquhon Castle (a little gem!), The Prop of Ythsie (for the fantastic views), the monument at Tarves churchyard. We’ve walked along the coast and seen the Bullers of Buchan (amazing!), Slains Castle and Cruden Bay, and we’ve walked around The Forvie Nature Reserve (we think we walked 8 miles that day!) with its wonderful coastal views. And we visited Castle Fraser en route. And now we know what else there is that we didn’t have time to do. Its been an amazing week! Jean and Tony, West Yorkshire, July 2019.
A lovely cottage with everything you need for a home from home holiday. The Bothy was everything we hoped for and we particularly appreciated the welcome tray. Thanks for a lovely week. Richard & Fiona, Glasgow, July 2019.
Thank you for a very comfortable stay. Enjoyed visiting “The Craft” and Haddo Park. Hope to visit again. Sean and Sarah, Swaziland, June 2019
Glen of Tanar – Ancient forests – crossbill birds. Glen Livet – gradual climb for mountain views. Carnie Woods – red squirrel, rabbits and bull finch. Newburgh – seals and scenes. Forvie – nature reserve. These are places we visited, and going home, not disappointed. Thoroughly enjoyable – both Stan and I love wildlife – we were so thrilled to see the red squirrel! My primary reason for coming to this part of Scotland was to look up Ancestry – my 3rd great grandmother came from Lonmay. We arrived at the church for Sunday Service – so much family history in Peterhead, Aberdeen, Keith and Banff dating back to the 1600’s. We will be back. Had a wonderful week – Bothy is a perfect base – peaceful. Margaret & Stan, Nottingham, June 2019.
Originally came to Scotland for my daughter’s wedding in Port Appin. We drove to Ellon / Pitmedden and we stayed in this lovely cottage. There is so much room and the cottage affords privacy. All you may need is in contained within the Bothy. James, June 2019
The Bothy is a haven of peace. We visited old haunts and discovered that Aberdeen has changed quite a bit over the last 20 years (especially the traffic!!) The Bothy provides everything you could wish for – we loved it! Haddo House is well worth a visit. It was a pity it was raining otherwise we would have visited the garden too. I am taking hoe some butteries and white puddings by special request by my children – they loved them when we were here! Thank you, Martha, for making our visit so enjoyable, starting with the welcome gift. Ann & Bill, Warwickshire, May 2019.
We have just had a lovely week at the Bothy. The welcome tray was wonderful after a 300-mile drive! We have had a very relaxing time at the Bothy and have caught up on our reading. It has been a great base for us as we were visiting family in Mintlaw. We know the area quite well but by far the Bothy has been the best suited for us. The Bothy was very comfortable and warm when we returned at night. The weather was not great but coming into a warm cottage was bliss! Highly recommend a visit to Formartine’s – food is fantastic and there is a lovely woodland walk. Thank you, Martha, for a lovely stay. Lynne & Clive, Darlington, November 2018.
A lovely Scottish cottage! There was tea/coffee and even Scottish shortbread to greet us on arrival! There was a folder of local information, including leaflets and menus for nearby/recommended places, that had been very thoughtfully put together by Martha. Fresh bed linens on request and regular fresh towels, made us feel like we were in a hotel! Unfortunately I had to have some emergency dental work during our stay, and Martha thoughtfully made some delicious vegetable soup for me! I was, and still am so touched by this kind gesture. Martha truly is an exceptional host. I would recommend it for anyone after a simple Scottish get away! Sara & Pete, October 2018.
Many thanks Martha for another most enjoyable stay! Such an ideal base for us to visit family and friends in the area. Stephen & Marcia, Suffolk, September 2018.
Enjoyable little spot to unwind and enjoy the local attractions. We saw a great dal while we were here including the beautiful gardens, a castle, some highland games and much more. Anita & Carol, Illinois, USA, August 2018.
We had a lovely stay at the Bothy and in this area of Scotland is a lovely Distillery in Oldmeldrum. There is also a very fine hotel to dine. Brewdog is a must if you like beer! Loved the walks in the Bennachie Hills so we had a lovely week and it is a good place to stay. Elvin, Denmark, August 2018.
Had a wonderful time here in NE Scotland: visited Tolquhon Castle, Haddo House, The Cairngorms National Forest, Culloden and Clava Cairns as well as the Loanhead Stones at Daviot and several pretty villages and enjoyed dinner at Eat on the Green! Only disappointed to have missed Pitmedden Gardens because they don’t open until 10.30am which would have caused us to miss something else! Martha has been a great hostess and this little Bothy has housed us very well! Thank you Martha! Tom & Kathy, Eseanaba, MI, USA
Spent a few peaceful days in my childhood home, having lived in this cottage from 1943 to 1968 (cottage has changed somewhat from those days – great improvement!) Caught up and reminisced with some “old” acquaintances. Remembering many happy memories. Martha and Jim are very welcoming and friendly as were their neighbours. Would love to come back again. PS see post from our son and daughter-in-law of February 2018. Syd & Frances, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Being a Dundee lad myself, I packed a couple of jumpers to come North. This was our first holiday back in Scotland in over 40 years when it was short sleeved shirts all the way! How lucky were we? We did most of the castles, all very different but well worth a visit and Eat on the Green on a Thursday night is well worth a booking – you will not be disappointed! The Bothy was the star though – very comfortable. We felt at home and well placed to go round the lovely countryside around. A visit to the Glen Garioch Distillery allows me to take home a wee momento. We would love to come back when Aberdeen gets its by-pass going. Best Wishes David & Karen, London, June 2018
We loved this Bothy, so comfortable and had everything we needed. Very comfortable bed. We visited Haddo House, Fyvie Castle and Pitmedden Gardens. Slains Castle, Collieston and Newborough for lovely walks. Went to the Craft Pub in the village and The Old Post Office which is now the Coffee Apothecary (lovely breakfast!). Had a meal at the Hotel and coffee at more places than I can remember – all good! We also went to the Aberdeen Highland Games and walked along the old railway line at Udny Station. As well as all this, we visited friends and family most days, even had visitors at the Bothy (they loved it!) A busy week for us! Thank you Martha for the “goodies on arrival” – just what we needed. Hope to be back sometime. Anne & Bob, Leicester, June 2018
Thank you for a very comfortable weekend. We made good use of our NTSD and HES Memberships. Need to come back to see Pitmedden garden in it’s full summer glory but the azaleas at Haddo and Fyvie made up for that absence of colour. Well worth timing your visit to Haddo to catch a tour of the house. Rounded off the weekend with a trip to Duff House, magnificently restored. John and Mary, Falkirk, June 2018.
Lovely cottage, great village 2 mins walk with craft beer pub, shop and friendly locals. Martha was very welcoming and the cottage was ideal for long weekend. Can highly recommend. Michelle and Paul, Falkirk, May 2018
A busy week for us this week visiting and spending time with our daughters and granddaughter. Bothy perfectly placed between all family members for ease of travelling. Visited a few National Trust properties all within short distance, lots of walking, returning after to the comfort of the Bothy. Really comfortable armchairs and bed. Probably return again in the future to visit family. Thank you Martha for the warm welcome, biscuits and cakes and also for the loan of the towel – much appreciated! Ann & Paul, North Wales
Thank you so much for a very enjoyable stay in your lovely bothy. We enjoyed lots of walks in the village and further afield. The meal at “Eat on the Green” was perfect! We had a very relaxing time with many coffee stops. The Bothy is very cosy and would recommend it to anyone. Hopefully return again. Jonathan & Valerie, Durham, April 2018
Enjoyed our stay despite the wintry weather! Visited Pitmedden Gardens for the Easter Egg Hunt with grandson and family. Also had a great time at Balmedie Beach. The Bothy is really cosy and we loved relaxing here doing jigsaws and crossword puzzles… it is so peaceful. Thank you so much for this beautiful place. Hugh and Liz, Cardiff, April 2018
Fantastic Break in a wonderful location. The Bothy is very comfortable and the Craft Bar, Linsmohr Hotel (both excellent) and Co-op is very handy. Great days out at Cruden Bay (Kilmarnock Hotel very cosy) and Ythan Estuary. Bullers of Buchan very worthwhile. Log fire and welcome goodies were a real treat! Bill and Esther, Fife, March 2018
It’s hard to believe that the Bothy was once home to a family with 6 children! My father was one of those 6, and lived here from the late 40s to the 60s when he then married and moved to Australia. Thank you Martha for affording me a single night stay to help connect with my father’s youth. Stuart and Janelle, Brisbane, Australia, February, 2018.
Fantastic little place that I will definitely use again. Great base for when I’m working in the area and everything you need for a place to stay when you are fed up of hotels! Village is fairly quiet but Coop, Craft bar and takeaway all within a few minutes walk! Keith, St Helens, January 2018
Lovely location, beautiful walks, amazing food @ Eat on the Green. Very comfortable sleep, beautiful and homely bothy. Thank Jim and Martha for your wonderful hospitality. Laura, January 2018
Had a lovely relaxing stay in the cottage. Even the weather was good for October! Loved the log burner – it totally made us warm and snug! Thanks again. Steven, Lynn & Remy, October 2017
Thank you for the beautiful accommodation – we liked it here very much. We visited Newburgh, Collieston, Cruden Bay, Peterhead & Fraserburgh. Everything was wonderful, especially the great landscape. Thank you very much! Rudi & Uschi, Germany, August 2017
We really appreciated our stay in your lovely cottage! We really felt at home. You prepared for us such a warm welcome. Thank you especially for all the advice on where we could go to see the great beauty of your beloved country. It was like a refreshment for body and soul to be here. Probably we will see each other again. We will recommend you to our friends and family at home. Kerstin & Matthias, Germany, August 2017
Up from the South visiting family and friends again. The Bothy makes an ideal base and we feel very lucky to have found you! Very comfortable, weather great – all we could have asked for! Stephen and Marcia, Suffolk, August 2017
A lovely week with family who live at Ulaw. I celebrated my big 70th Birthday – wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else! Second visit for me – just great as before. Rose, Cornwall, August 2017
Thank you for the Welcome. We have had a great week. The Bothy has been a great base to tour from and a lovely comfortable place to come back to every night! Janet and Alan, Stoke on Trent, July 2017
We have all had a thoroughly lovely week at the Bothy. Thank you for everything Martha. Terry, Laura and Millie, July 2017
We’ve had a wonderful week – thank you for the shortbread and carrot cake! We’ve been with family who live nearby to Haddo House, Pitmedden Gardens, Fyvie Castle, the amusement park in Aberdeen and the Maritime museum in Aberdeen! Our grandson enjoyed finding the hidden green lady ‘doll’ in each room at Fyvie. We’ve enjoyed sitting out for breakfast and watching all the birds. Many thanks once again and we hope to return. Liz & Hugh, Cardiff, July 2017
We enjoyed our stay at the Bothy. There is a large park and ride in Ellon opposite Tesco, good service to Aberdeen City Centre. Good food at the Newburgh Inn, Newburgh then down to the beach to see hundreds of seals! In Huntly, try the Cafe/Bistro at Deans Shortbread Factory. Robert & Georgina, Kirkcaldy, June 2017
This was our first visit to Aberdeenshire. We have really enjoyed our stay in a warm, cosy and comfortable cottage with everything we need provided. It is also well situated for many activities. Enjoyed visits to many NTS Castles, enjoyed the wildlife and walking, and a train journey gave us the opportunity to see the landscape from a different perspective. We now leave the comfort and space of the Bothy with many thanks to Martha! Gerald & Adrian, Cheshire, June 2017.
Thank you for providing such a cosy, clean, well decorated and fully equipped cottage. We enjoyed visiting some of the many beautiful castles and gardens in the area. We couldn’t fit them all in – so we must come back! Sue and Jon, Isle of Skye, June 2017
Thank you for the lovely warm welcome – we really enjoyed our stay. It was cosy and peaceful – just what we needed! Betty & Terry, Lancashire, May 2017
Springtime in Aberdeenshire is lovely! The charms of the area grow on you – the more you look, the more you see!! The Castles, the coast, the gardens, seals, birds and flowers were beautiful but the space is…………. !! A lovely place to live (lucky Jim and Martha). Rick and Suzi, West Yorkshire, May 2017
Had a fantastic stay at the Bothy. Martha made sure our stay was stress free – even the shortbread, tea and milk were there when we arrived! We will definitely be back. John & Kath, Dunfermline, April 2017
This is our third visit to the Bothy and we have found it as comfortable and welcoming as always. We love this little cottage.
We can recommend: Wynford Farm at Kingswells – we had food there too. Also if you like wild life a visit to Newburgh Beach – the seal colony is enormous. Cruden Bay is also worth a visit. An absolutely beautiful beach, cliff walk and Slains Castle. Lunch is easy too as there are 2 hotels – both provide excellent food. Thanks again Martha and Jim. See you again soon. Debs, Eric and Poppy the Spaniel, Coventry, April 2017
We have really enjoyed our stay at the Bothy. It’s been warm and comfortable and so peaceful. We have stayed in the area on numerous occasions but had no idea that you could see the seals at Newburgh. The seals are still there in their hundreds! We’ve been very lucky during our stay to see eagles, deer, stoats and pine martens. Will recommend the Bothy to friends and family. Liz and Ian, London, October 2016
We booked the Bothy at short notice as my sister lives in Ellon. Martha & Jim were extremely helpful in getting this sorted. We had a lovely week away visiting a new area for us. Nice & cosy to return to. We will be back! Pete, Sue & Jet, Essex, October 2016
The Bothy was visited by Syd Taylor who lived in Seaton Cottage as it was known then as a child and young adult. Great memories. Many thanks to Martha & Jim who allowed him to view the cottage and listened to his memories. Syd writes: “Spent the happiest days of my life here” – notwithstanding his marriage!
Syd Taylor, Brisbane, September 2016
NOTE: Jim and Martha were privileged to meet Syd and to spend time hearing about his time at the Bothy. We hope he will get the chance to spend a night here if he is back in Scotland.
After travelling up from South Wales, we were delighted to receive such a warm & friendly welcome from Martha, who had also provided a welcoming tray enabling us to have a cuppa without having to hunt high & low for supplies. The Bothy is ideal for two people providing a comfortable base for touring the area.
We did not cook whilst staying at the Bothy as we had made a decision to take in the local eateries whilst exploring the area, so on our travels we enjoyed a wonderfully cooked sirloin steak in the Cornkist in Ellon, as well as an excellent Sunday Carvery in the Buchan Hotel in Ellon.
We visited a range of lovely fishing towns & villages taking in both the Coastal Route and the Castle Route, visiting Fraserburgh, Stonehaven, Falls of Feugh, Dunnottar Castle (need to be fit for this one!!), Inverurie, Banchory, Ballater and as far afield as Arbroath to enjoy fresh hot smokies out of the kiln in the delightful harbour in the town.
The area is peaceful & relaxing and provided my husband and I with an opportunity to recharge our batteries. Thank you Martha for a lovely break. Paula & Jeremy, South Wales, September 2016
So glad we found the Bothy. Up from the South to visit friends and family and it was an ideal base for us. Plus great weather, breakfasts at the front of the Bothy, and every kindness from Martha. Do hope to come again! Stephen & Marcia, Suffolk, September 2016
Huge thanks to Martha for having us for a few days. We really, simply needed a break away from it all and we certainly have enjoyed this cosy and comfortable wee Bothy. Originally from Methlick, we enjoyed this wee home from home – the peace and quiet, the lovely colours in all the trees and plants. Much of our time was spent reading and enjoying the quiet. We also took some time out at Pitmedden Garden – gorgeous as always. Enjoyed with a lovely fresh mint tea and a ‘fancy piece’. Thanks again for our safe haven! Kayleigh & Robert, Newry August 2016.
Had a delightful stay at The Bothy this week. Saw many local things including the Newburgh Nature Reserve & beach, the seals at the mouth of the Ythan, Tolquhon Castle (definitely worth a look!), Haddo House and especially the grounds where we saw 2 red squirrels. The Prop of Ythsie (first right after Tolquhon Castle, it is a tower open to the public which is a steep climb but the views from the top are amazing!) and the stone circle across the road from this and we also visited Pitmedden Gardens and Ellon.
Further afield, we visited Slain’s Castle near Cruden Bay, an RSPB sponsored Dolphin Watch in Aberdeen, the city of Aberdeen and Braemar Castle and the Nature Reserve there. We’ve loved Pitmedden and the Bothy and will be returning! Also, the welcome tray was a lovely touch. For our first visit to Scotland, this was perfect. Thank you Martha for all your help. Matthew & Megan, Oxfordshire, August 2016
Enjoyed our stay at “The Bothy”. Well worth the trip from Cornwall. Thank you Martha. Malcolm & Shirley, Cornwall, July 2016.
The Bothy has been a wonderfully comfortable and well-equipped base for a most enjoyable week. Despite mixed weather, we have been out and about every day. Visited 3 National Trust properties – Haddo, Leith Hall and of course, Pitmedden Garden. Most amazing sight of the week was a colony of hundreds of seals (no exaggeration!) on a Sandbank in the Ythan Estuary. Thanks to Martha & Jim for making us feel welcome. The welcome tray on arrival set the tone for the whole week! Janet & Brian, Dunblane, June 2016
Thanks Martha for the Welcome Tray – very much appreciated. We have had a great time. The weather has been warm and sunny. Newburgh Bay/Beach is worth a visit to see the seals. We have family living in Pitmedden, so the cottage has been the ‘ideal home’ for a few days. Steve & Gill, Rugby, May 2016.
Our return visit has been really comfortable and warm, much appreciated as the weather has been quite harsh this week. Many thanks to Martha for the welcome tray on our arrival and our grand-daughter loved the Fredo Frog chocs when visiting ‘the pretty wee hoosie’ once again.
This visit we can recommend a visit to Torry Battery on Thursday and Saturday mornings with the RSPB from 11am for a few hours Dolphin Watching with the Rangers. They provide binoculars for a small donation in their collection box and provide you with lots of info about the Bottle Nose Dolphins and other harbour visitors. Follow the coast road a bit further and you come to Doonies Farm, a rare breed centre for farm animals – well worth a visit. We will be back! Thanks once again. Debs & Eric, Conventry, April 2016
Great stay at the Bothy. Nice and quiet. Martha and Jim were great hosts. Will definitely be back. Kenny & Irene, Inverness, April 2016
We had a lovely stay, well equipped kitchen, very cosy. We had fab weather for the time of year… so didn’t get to use the wood burner but we SO wanted to. Logs were provided, extremely comfortable bed – slept better than at home! Would definitely recommend this bothy for a short or long stay, I can say we will definitely be returning. Martha was lovely – very welcoming and happy to help and we had a fabulous anniversary meal on her recommendation. Thanks for a lovely stay. Karen & Paul, South Yorkshire, March 2016
Lovely warm welcome, really enjoyed our short stay in the Bothy. Weather was good, plenty to do and see in the area. Much appreciated wee break. Many thanks. Suzie and John, Blairgowrie, February 2016
THANKS TO DAVID SIMPSON PHOTOGRAPHY FOR THIS STUNNING PHOTO OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS.
We enjoyed our wee break at the Bothy. It was cosy and peaceful and just what we needed after a hectic Christmas! Happy New Year and all the best for 2016. Linda and Stewart, Renfrew, December 2015
Thank you for the lovely welcome and introduction to such a perfect wee place. It has been ideal for visiting family, who I don’t see as often as I’d like. We’ve revisited my childhood haunts and loved every minute of it.
The Bothy is a cosy, warm retreat and the log fire wonderful. There are too many fantastic places to mention – get out there and have an adventure! Debbie and Craig, Lancashire, October 2015
Second visit to the Bothy. Very comfortable and cosy. Good position for visiting in the area. The weather was kind. Thanks to Martha for cakes and milk….we could have stayed longer!! Moira and Terry, Abernethy, October 2015
Lovely stay in the Bothy. The weather has been very kind. We have visited National Trust houses, loved Pitmedden Garden. We’ve followed the coastal trail from Stonehaven to Banff – over a few days. Forvie has been a wonderful place to visit and we’ve had a couple of days there. Seen seals, hundreds of birds, and on Friday the Pink Footed Geese have been flying over from Iceland. Fabulous… Thank you. Rachel and Ian, Sheffield, September 2015
We’ve had a lovely comfortable stay here. Came to see the new grandson and celebrate two other special birthdays. Everything here has been so generously appointed with lots of thoughtful details. So nice to be welcomed with biscuits and milk and the electric blanket has been a much appreciated luxury!! Thank you Martha for all your thoughtfulness! Diana & Bob, Bolton, September 2015
We had a good week here, weather was generally very good (a couple of rainy days of course!), but this didn’t spoil our holiday as there is so much to see and do! We went to Loch Ness, Inverness, Stonehaven, Aberdeen and particularly the beautiful northern coast. Highly recommend Fennel at Inverurie for a quality meal out, best to book. Andy & Bev, Norfolk, August 2015
A super week in the Bothy, the sun has shone all week. Location perfect for visiting our daughter. A lovely place to relax. Graham & Lesley, Lincolnshire, August 2015
We had a lovely week in the Bothy. It is comfortable, warm and central. Lots of nice walks and made welcome by friendly people. Charlie & Kim, heading back to Nigeria, August 2015
We too have visited a lot of NT properties, all worth while. Everybody was very friendly and helpful. Walking around Pitmedden Estate much appreciated. Staying in the Bothy has been lovely. Helen & Barry, North Wales, July 2015
Thank you for a comfortable week at The Bothy. To dodge the rain we have now managed to visit all the NTS properties in the North East of Scotland! It was nice to re-visit old haunts like Newburgh. We also saw otters off the Bridge of Don. Alan and Anna, Northumberland, July 2015
We had a great week of boogie boarding (Fraserburgh), hiking (Mither Tap), exploring (Banff to Dunnotar) and rambling about. Love the trees and green and easy going folks. Watched the seals near Newburgh, fought the traffic in Aberdeen, and scoped out pubs! – Pitmedden, Old Meldrum ((Jocks), Ellon (Brew Dog and Toll House). The Bothy was comfortable and the hosts were kind. Hope to return here again to Scottish Paradise. Lesley & Linda, Nova Scotia, Canada, June 2015
We spent a very lovely long weekend in this enjoyable place. The weather was nice and we had a chance to visit Pitmedden Gardens and a walk through the woods too. Martha is one of the best and the most welcoming person that you can meet in your life! Thank you very much for everything. Rosario and Maria, Italy, May 2015
Thanks Martha for my few weeks in your lovely Bothy. Although I was in the area for work, it was lovely to have a nice homely place to come home to each night. The Bothy is kitted out with everything you may need for a home away from home, and I particularly enjoyed my millionaire’s shortbread on arrival, and playing with the jigsaws! Sophie Punteney, Glasgow, May 2015
Thank you Martha for a very pleasant and cosy few days at your lovely Bothy. Loved the beach at Newburgh. Fiona and Joyce, Edinburgh, April 2015
Thank you Martha for your welcome to Pitmedden Bothy – comfortable and well-equipped.
The Bothy is extremely well situated for easy exploration of the important National Trust for Scotland properties in the area. Every one is well worth a visit. Unfortunately Pitmedden Gardens was closed during our visit – so we will have to come back again!! Con and Bridie, Lanarkshire, April 2015.
We absolutely have loved our stay in The Bothy or the ‘pretty wee hoosie’ as our granddaughter age 5 has described it when visiting us during our stay.
The Bothy is well equipped, very comfortable and well located for tourist attractions. We can highly recommend Haddo House to visit. The new adventure playground is great for wearing down grandchildren’s energy levels! Mrs Smith’s café just off the car park does lovely homemade soup and wonderful cup cakes. Thanks Martha for making us so welcome. We will definitely book again. Debs and Eric, Coventry, April 2015
We have had a lovely week’s stay. Lovely to come back to the Bothy at night. We will definitely come back. Many thanks. Pauline & Malachy, London, April 2015
Many thanks for the use of the cottage. Thank you for the welcome tray. Ideal base for us. Enjoyed the wind blown visit to the beach and saw hundreds of seals and many eider ducks. Hope to return. Joan, Michael and Lucy, Cumbria, March 2015
A lovely comfortable and cosy little cottage. Great area. Very handy for visiting our niece in Ellon. Thank you for a lovely visit. Dawn & Joy, West Sussex, March 2015
A perfect introduction to Scotland for our daughter Celeste who will be studying in Aberdeen for a term. The beaches, the castles and the weather have all been quite magical. We hope to return soon. Kathryn, Rob & Celeste, British Columbia, Canada, January 2015
We were here for a very short visit, but found two great walks. A lovely cottage with everything you need, and Martha gave us a very warm welcome. Hope to visit again. Ian & Meg, Glasgow, December 2014
We enjoyed our stay at the Bothy while visiting relatives in Ellon. Warm and comfortable and very central for touring around Aberdeenshire. Holly loved the beach walks! Joyce and Tom, Glasgow, November 2014
It has been great here! The Bothy has everything you need. We were here for five days and it is all excellent. Very easy to get to Aberdeen and the village is very nice. Will come back again. It was nice to have tea and cookies ready for you after a long drive and a long flight! Thank you. Jeff & Gillian, Pennsylvania, USA, October 2014
We’ve had a lovely four days at the Bothy. Martha was very welcoming when we arrived. It was great to come back to the Bothy at night after visiting relatives and friends. Pitmedden is a lovely “wee” village. We have sent photo’s of the Bothy to friends in America, who are all impressed with it. May be one day you will have visitors from Missouri!. Once again thank you Martha for your hospitality. We would certainly come back again and will recommend it to friends and family in Australia. Helen & Les Mathieson, Melbourne, Australia, September 2014.
Wonderful stay in the Bothy. Enjoyed exploring the area including seeing the seals. Spectacular scenery along the coastline and inland. It was nice to come back to the Bothy each night and relax in such comfortable, peaceful surroundings. Thank you for the welcome tray! Sue & Jeremy, Yorkshire, September 2014
Stayed here for 7 weeks whilst waiting to move down to Carnoustie. Enjoyed the peace and quiet and managed to get some good work on my new photography website under my belt. A warm welcome and Martha is ever friendly!. Paul Robertson, August-September 2014
Have enjoyed a lovely week in the comfortable little ‘home from home’ Bothy. Good weather has been a bonus although we’re not too keen on ‘The Haar’ which has apparently been quite plentiful in Aberdeen compared to the usual! Nice to have a good view and seat to enjoy it outside. The ‘welcome’ cakes were much enjoyed! Very quiet place! Roy & Gill, Bristol, July 2014
We’ve had a lovely week at the Bothy. Lots of walks and the weather has been a bonus. Hope to bee back again. Thanks for everything. Robert & Olive, Co Tyrone, N. Ireland, July 2014
Thank you for a very comfortable stay… and to Jillian for help with the washing. A lovely retreat after great days out in Fyvie Castle, Haddo House, Portsoy, Gardenstown etc. and also a chance to meet up with relatives living in this area – the Gordon clan. Richard & Wilma, Norfolk, July 2014.
The Bothy is a wonderful place to relax after days exploring this beautiful area. Collieston, Ellon along the river, the sand dunes at Balmeddie, Tarves, Inverurie, Pitmedden Gardens etc! Thanks Martha for all your help. Ron & Glenda, Melbourne, Australia, June 2014
I was travelling from Cornwall to Ellon to help my son and family move house and having stayed at The Bothy before, emailed Martha. I was lucky and she arranged a 3 night short-notice booking for me. The Bothy was far more suitable than a hotel or guest house, as I could bring my grandchildren there, giving them some time away from the disruption of the house move back at their home. Conversely it gave me time to myself in a relaxing atmosphere. I hope to stay again with husband: it really is an ideal place and so nice to be able to self-cater rather than the regime of hotel or guest house. Rosemary, Cornwall, June 2014
Well, what can I say! The Bothy became our home as we relocated to Aberdeen – we loved the area so much we bought a house just up the road. I have to say that this little place became our haven as we started a new job and went house-hunting. We were glad to get back each night to our cosy retreat.
Martha & Jim have been so kind and nothing has been too much trouble for them They have certainly gone above and beyond. I don’t think we could have done any of the massive changes if they hadn’t been so helpful.
We will always remember our time here and the lovely introduction to Aberdeenshire. (Don’t tell anyone how good the weather is – they never believe you anyway!) Thank you! Tracy & Steve, Feb-May 2014
What a lovely place and made even more special by Martha’s hospitality. An ideal base to visit Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and I hope that we will be back. Thank you! Neil and Anne, Strathaven, January 2014
We had a lovely, cosy little get away with our newborn son. Thank you – it is a charming little Bothy! Jake, Hanna and Arwyn, Aberdeenshire, December 2013
Thank you again. It’s a pity it is always work that brings me here but at least we have a cosy quiet place to come home to at night! The Nazina Indian restaurant in Ellon opposite the library is excellent! Jean & Tom, November 2013
Wonderful place to stay. Thank you to Martha for her fantastic hospitality. The log burner has been lovely and very relaxing in the evenings. We have enjoyed visiting the amazing beaches, the stunning cairngorms, Loch Ness, Inverness, Aberdeen and the lighthouse at Fraserburgh. The weather has also been amazing with mostly blue skies throughout our stay. Thank you so much again! Laura & Charlie, October 2013.
Thank you for your hospitality and the warm welcome. The sweets were delicious – thank you for that. The Bothy is a nice place to stay for two people. It has everything a couple needs. You can reach many places from here. There are a lot of beautiful golf courses in the neighbourhood when you like golf! As we do! Thank you for all and till another time… Cecile & Arlie, The Netherlands, October 2013.
Beautiful Bothy, well equipped and the perfect location! I can’t tell you how nice it was to have a tea, biccies and chocolate ready for us after our long drive! Would definitely recommend it to our stressed out city friends. Lorraine, Joe & Dylan, October 2013.
We enjoyed a relaxing, comfortable stay in this cosy Bothy. The weather has been kind and we have had some lovely walks – a visit to Dunnottar Castle, climbing Bennachie, and enjoying the long beaches and sand dunes at Forvie. Many thanks. Elly & Jim, Fife, October 2013
Very relaxing break – peaceful but with plenty to do in the area. Appreciated a return visit to the beautiful bay at Forvie and other areas along the scenic/stunning coastline. The tennis club is very hospitable (contact the secretary beforehand) & John enjoyed his cycling in the area. The Bothy was/had everything we needed: hospitality much appreciated. Shirley & John, Kilmarnock, October 2013.

Have had a lovely few days at the Bothy! Very warm welcome and will be back for sure!! Thanks once again. Kenny & Callum, Kilmarnock, August 2013
Very enjoyable week based in the Bothy. Certainly plenty to se and do. We managed to take in castles, beaches, distilleries, walking the peaks and enjoying the wildlife. Dunnotter Castle was magical especially with a piper! The coast at Collieston, Cruden Bay and Rattray were so quiet and peaceful. Rattray Head was reached by a trek along a long track but was well worth the trek! Seabirds were the only population on the deserted miles of sandy beach. Peter & Julia, Wantage, August 2013
Only here for a few days but felt very at home straight away. A lovely quiet getaway. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality. Jo & Martin, Hove, August 2013

This wee But n’Ben was a last minute find but proved the perfect setting for a very restful New Year break. We toured the Aberdeenshire coast,;saw eagles; lammas; fire balls; stood on clifftops and braced the wind; walked in snow in the Cairngorms and ate, drank and slept for Scotland. Thank you for your hospitality. Michael & Mario, January 2012
